Encryption and TRANSEC

Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Data Encryption

AES Encryption will ingest non-encrypted traffic from the LAN and encrypt all outgoing traffic to the satellite (WAN) on the TX traffic path. On the RX traffic path, the reverse is performed, WAN traffic is decrypted and sent to the LAN. AES data encryption and decryption are used for transmission security to prevent unauthorized access to user traffic. AES is the standard encryption algorithm for all Comtech TRANSEC Modules.

Transmission Security (TRANSEC)

TRANSEC prevents an adversary from exploiting information available in a communications channel without necessarily having defeated encryption. TRANSEC requires all network control channels and Management & Control (M&C) data to be encrypted, and that all traffic engineering information be obfuscated from an adversary. For example, TRANSEC requires a communications channel to appear completely full to an adversary even if little or no actual data is flowing. Comtech offers several forms of TRANSEC in its product lines from NIST 140-3 compliant modules to universal modules that are fully NIST 140-3 certified.
